Look what the night brought us !!! Three brown ewe lambs out of our youngest ewe Kiki. Kiki is 12 months old and really out did herself here! She is an awesome Mom and the little girls are doing great. I couldn't be happier! (These girls are out of Leevi our new ram) This morning Priscilla's triplets (two days old) were let out to meet the big wide world. They are growing so fast. We are delighted with another sunny day for our little charges !

Babies in a bucket smile emoticon Things like this just make me smile! It is a beautiful day here in Maine today!
Yesterday (3-11) our beautiful Finn/Columbia cross ewe Priscilla blessed us with triplets for the second year in a row....one ram, two ewelambs....she combines the best of traits from both breeds...large framed , super friendly, great mom with lots of milk, multiple lambs at birth, great fleece...her lambs are 3/4 finn, 1/4 columbia.....it was a good day.
Today (March 6th) ended on a high note! Vanessa gave us two gorgeous brown ram lambs! While she was delivering, the other older lambs (3-4 days old) were already plotting something devious I just know it. They are so fun so watch! 7 ewes left to deliver!!!!!
Tough luck again. This morning I went out to feed at 6:30am and Valerie had delivered outside. She had three lambs, two were already deceased from hypothermia and one little brown ewe lamb. (below) We had done a 1:30am check, and a 3:30am check. This is Valerie's 4th lambing and she is our only ewe that delivers outside instead of seeking shelter in a shed. We feel horrible, but we also feel blessed that she gave us this perfect beautiful little brown ewe lamb. She has stolen my heart already! 8 to go............
Happenings today this 5th day of March. Josie got to sniff and meet Elsie's lambs. Josie loves the lambs and could not wait to greet them! Marra's lambs were let out of the jug to see the big wide world. The lambs stay close to Momma and take the change of scenery in stride. It is a bright sunny day here in Maine. Perfect for lambs!
Yesterday's delivery. On March 4th Easy had twins. One ewe lamb and one ram lamb. She delivered about 3:30pm. The ram lambs is 8 lbs, the ewe lamb 7.5lbs. Ben assisted in getting the little girl out who was first as she had her front legs under her belly instead of up by her little nose. But thankfully he was successful. The little boy was then born on his own. We are blessed again that all are well and happy ! So that makes 3 ewe lambs and 3 ram lambs so far. 9 ewes to go!
Everything doesn't always come up roses. Marra went into labor 8pm last night. She had a rough time of it. She delivered a 10.5 lb ram lamb then continued to push for an hour at which time we called the vet. Dr Mareki from Kennebec Vets arrived about 11:30pm and pulled out three more lambs. Two were stillborn and a healthy ewe lamb. So Marra had quads but will raise twins. Her babes are beautiful and healthy and she is quite pleased with them. No one really knows why or how things like this happen but we are thankful that Marra and her babes are content and happy.
11:30 am, 2016 lambing season begins , with Elsie doing a great job bringing twins into the world( one ramlamb, one ewelamb). Both are doing well with a very happy and content Mom. Marra is on deck, she will probably lamb within the next 24 hours.....last year she had triplets( and she is much larger this year)......here we go!
Ohhhhh Baby! The matrons of Sweet Clover Farm are looking "large"!! With 4-5 more weeks I can't even imagine how big they will get! Everyone is healthy and happy and I am anxious to see all the new babes!!! If you are looking for lambs in the spring reserve yours now!
We will have lambs who are white, black, badger and brown! Something for everyone. :) |
